The Neftegaz exhibition is a landmark for us. It has run for 45 years, which shows how important and in-demand it is not only for the oil and gas industry, but also for all those associated with it. This includes machine builders, metallurgists, chemists, environmentalists, manufacturers of new materials and so on. Almost all sectors are connected with the oil and gas industry, which can be called the backbone of the Russian economy.

One of the key events of the Neftegaz 2023 conference programme was the National Oil & Gas Forum, organised by the Russian Ministry of Energy, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP), the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Union of Oil and Gas Producers of Russia, and the Russian Gas Society.

The forum’s programme was divided into three thematic blocks, which discussed a wide range of topical issues facing the oil and gas industry today.

The topic of the first day’s discussion was Development Strategy, Branch Economics, and International Cooperation.

The strategy session on Strategy of Russia in a Changing World: Balancing Affordability, Cost-Effectiveness, and Sustainability of Energy Resources was attended by First Deputy Minister of Energy of Russia Pavel Sorokin, Vice-President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Dmitry Kurochkin, Chair of the Chamber’s Committee on Energy Strategy and Development of the Fuel and Energy Sector, Chair at the Council of the Union of Oil and Gas Producers of Russia Yury Shafranik, Deputy Chair of the Chamber’s Committee on Energy Strategy and Development of the Fuel and Energy Sector, President of the Union of Oil and Gas Producers of Russia Genady Shmal, and experts from the Chamber’s relevant committees and councils.

Pavel Sorokin made a presentation on the key results of the Russian fuel and energy sector in 2022, overcoming sanctions pressure from unfriendly states, and on the strategic development of the industry in the context of changes in the global energy market. He noted that the Russian oil and gas sector is developing steadily, the country is successfully implementing a social gasification programme, import substitution of oil and gas and power equipment is carried out, and exports are redirected to other markets.

Yury Shafranik presented a detailed analysis of the oil and gas industry and shared his vision for its development, both in Russia and globally.

According to Dmitry Kurochkin, the most important task for Russia’s oil and gas industry in the current environment is to significantly reduce the cost of oil and gas production, a kind of ‘turn’ from demands and requests for subsidies and benefits to new technological developments that reduce production costs manifold. This is where we face the problem of operational financing of industry science. He noted that the experts of the Chamber’s Committee for Energy Strategy and Development of the Fuel and Energy Sector are actively involved in implementing a number of Russian fuel and energy sector projects, first of all, the Clean Energy federal project and the state programme of gas market development in Russian regions.

On the second day, there were a number of sessions on Scientific and Technological Development, Import Substitution and Innovation Transfer.

Given the current geopolitical trends and the main vector of Russia’s trade and economic relations, one of the main thematic areas of the forum’s third day conference programme was the issue of building new economic ties and forming reliable technological partnerships in the Eurasian space with the help of international structures such as the SCO, EAEU, ASEAN and BRICS.

The exhibition and forum on a single platform made it possible to simultaneously discuss the most important theoretical problems and practical tasks of the fuel and energy sector and to be acquainted with the latest technological achievements of the energy sector. Leading experts told how Russian gas and oil companies have withstood the sanctions and which areas of industry development are the most effective in the current environment.

Exhibitors and visitors praised the results of their participation in the exhibition and conference programme. They held meetings with potential partners, took part in discussions and concluded contracts for long-term work with customers.

This is evidenced by participant feedback.
