Dialogue of Generations at Neftegaz 2023
An open discussion was held today as part of the Neftegaz.LIVE conference programme on Youth Perspectives in the Oil and Gas industry: Dialogue of Generations. The event was organised by EXPOCENTRE AO and supported by the Russian National Committee of the World Petroleum Council Association.
The Association has been operating since 1958 in order to develop the national oil and gas sector and promote its interests in the international arena. It was established as the USSR National Petroleum Committee, later renamed the Soviet National Committee for Participation in World Petroleum Congresses, and then the Russian National Committee of the World Petroleum Council for organisation and management of the world petroleum congresses.
The question of intergenerational dialogue was posed from the perspective of the interaction between university science and industry, the demand for the developments of students and young scientists in the industry, and mechanisms for enhancing cooperation between industry and industry science concentrated in higher education.
The discussion was attended by Ilya Indrupsky, Deputy Director for Research at the Oil and Gas Research Institute RAS, Artem Fomkin, Deputy General Director at VNIIneft AO, Anna Salykina, Deputy Director for Development at the Geology, Oil and Gas Museum (Khanty-Mansyisk), Artur Khisamov, Chief Manager of Well and Reservoir Modelling and Analysis Department at RN-BashNIPIneft, and other participants.
They discussed the results of sociological surveys conducted among the students of specialised universities, touching on the topic of students’ interest in scientific research, as well as favourable conditions for motivation of future young professionals to carry out scientific research and work creatively.
The panellists agreed that the prestige of scientific activity in the oil and gas industry should be significantly raised and investment in it increased, in particular by greater investments from oil and gas companies in applied scientific research focused on strategic industry objectives, import substitution, and proactive import substitution.
